Jellyfish - the movie

Saw this film last night at the Spectrum. It was a wonderful little movie, and we both enjoyed it. The director spoke afterwards, answering questions. This little girl was 4 years old, and just stole the movie scenes...

St. Patrick's Day Parade, Albany NY

I haven't been to the Albany parade in about 20 years - It was so underwhelming back then compared to the NYC parade always being broadcast on channel 9 and hosted by Captain Jack McCarthy (who also hosted the popeye show, btw)

This year a group of people were going to McGeary's and to the parade - I thought maybe it was about time to give it another try....

North Pearl Street had barricades up so that the viewing audience wouldn't spill out into the parade route, or maybe to increast the viewing area for the huge number of drunken idiots who needed an excuse to consume massive amounts of alcohol and trash the street and trash themselves as well. On a related note, I did see a lot of girls with 'Drink Team' T shirts, surprisingly one of them is a teacher at my school.

I actually felt sorry for the poor Albany cops who were assigned to the Pearl street section of the parade route...

Maybe once every 20 years is enough.

Wristcutters

Friday night was a free showing of Wristcutters at SUNY Page Hall, as part of the Writer's Institute visit of Etgar Keret on Monday. He wrote the short story "Kneller's Happy Campers" on which this movie was based.

It is a dark comedy that is set in a place that people who have committed suicide end up - Hell? No one can smile, (but otherwise it doesn't really look that much different) It was funny in parts, kind of poignant in parts, and I for one liked the way it ended, even if real life doesn't always wrap up so nicely.

Mother of the Year Murders

Went to see Glens Falls Community Theater's production of Mother of the Year Murders last night. What a hoot! The show was great, so funny and lots of improv with the audience. The character Guy Miley, the 'emcee' of the Mother of the Year Pagent was too funny, a perfect parody. It was a whodunnit, with the audience getting a chance to ask questions, get clues, and solve the crime...(I didn't get it right)
It was hosted at the Queensbury Hotel, which was nice, and the dinner served was good, standard banquet fare.
Definitely going to think about attending the next play they are doing in May.

Watchmen

Yes it is violent. It also is graphic. It is a superhero movie for adults, but in one word -

Wow.

he's just not that into you

Last night we went to see this movie at Colonie Center. It was thoroughly enjoyable and a fluff entertainment movie. I liked it. There were some recognizable traits, and some universal truths about relationships. There were also some big laughs - and I thought it was hilarious that the Jennifer Connelly character could forgive her husband for cheating, just not for smoking....
