You will meet a tall dark stranger

Saw this at the spectrum with Jackie.  Ok movie, enjoyable enough, some very funny scenes, interesting, thought provoking...good cast.  What's the moral here?  That life is a massive fail, and it's better to have something to believe in than not?

Silpada party

So CM is starting a silpada business - went to her party on Monday, and even though I am NOT much of a jewelry person, because of the 'friendship clause' I feel obligated and ordered two things, one of which is sort of like what's shown here, and the other one, well I already forgot what I ordered!  Does that prove my point that I am not really a jewelry person? ha! (the picture is just from google images- thanks to whoever took it)

Waiting for Superman

Saw this at the Spectrum last week with CM and another friend of hers.  This movie has been getting a lot of buzz, it's very pro Charter Schools and blames the Teachers' Unions as standing in the way of improving education.  I don't know about that- of course I do belong to that union!  But the bottom line - Doesn't every kid deserve a good school?

Beam me up, Alien Baby

I'm not exactly sure why PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) started using these weird Alien babies instead of those little sleeping doll-type babies, but regardless, I am recertified to resuscitate Peds for two more years.  Now if only I could get beamed up....

Obama - What up?

J sent me this pic yesterday - it's graffiti from Austin...
HEY- Obama, what up?

Lots of negative everything during this campaign season - The 'vote-them-out' people were lining the Wolf Road intersection yesterday -ummm who ARE these people?  (and actively supporting Carl Paladino at this point? Really?)  People, please keep your narrow-minded holier-than-thou intolerance away from my government-  These conservative, tea-party people (who still have their link to 'The Obama Birth Certificate Scandal' (was there a scandal?) on their home page) are just scary to me - Hating is not the way to fix this country!  Why are they all middle aged and older white people?  Do the tea-party-vote-them-out people all have white-man-syndrome as well?  The arrogance that this country should still be divided by race, gender, religion, ethnic background/country of origin and sexual orientation? Ugh.
I am not a bleeding-heart liberal and I don't know what the answers are. I do know I have biases sometimes, but I try to confront my feelings about them and I do know that hating somebody else really doesn't make life better - There is not a conspiracy by Blacks Hispanics Jewish lesbians...If you're feeling like you are missing something or missing out on something, I don't think that's probably why.

Anyway, back to Obama - According to Polifact website - He's kept (122) or is in the process of working on (236) of his campaign promises.  Only 22 broken promises so far - that seems like a reasonable record to this point - yet the prevailing feeling is that government is ineffective and ineffectual. Hopefully the results of this election will not set the country back 50 years as far as civil rights....

But:  Obama - WHAT UP with the healthcare bill fiasco?  FIX IT!

Well, it's no secret that I supported Hilary...just had to throw that in <3

At My Most Beautiful REM

This song just jumped back on my radar; the heartbreaking ache of longing

click HERE for the youtube video
I've found a way to make you smile
I've found a way
A way to make you smile
I read bad poetry
Into your machine.
I save your messages
Just to hear your voice.
You always listen carefully
To awkward rhymes.
You always say your name,
Like I wouldn't know it's you,
At your most beautiful.
I've found a way to make you smile
I've found a way
A way to make you smile
At my most beautiful
I count your eyelashes, secretly.
With every one, whisper I love you.
I let you sleep.
I know you're closed eye watching me,
Listening.
I though I saw a smile.
I've found a way to make you smile
I've found a way
A way to make you smile

Olde Shaker Inn

Went here for (yet another!) restaurant week...and to celebrate Helen's birthday.  Never went here before - converted farmhouse, professional service.  The food was pretty good, and the bread pudding for dessert was so delish. Still, with all the restaurants around, I don't see this becoming a regular place for me.

AdkENA discussion of Violence in the ED

Went to this discussion at the Saratoga Holiday Inn tonight with Chris from work.  Interesting discussion of 1. Who it is that will probably hurt you - paranoid schizophrenics are the statistical leader in this one...

The most glaring attention getter for me was Steven's discussion of what happens at AMC - if there's a GSW or stabbing, the whole ED goes into lockdown, nobody in and the only way out is through security.  That is absolutely opposite of what happens where we are, when the only security person is out guarding the parking lot or whatever it is that they do when they are unreachable.... One day we really will all be dead on the floor.

Greg Klyma at the Falcon Arts Center - 10/16/10

So after talking up the Falcon to gK, and him getting booked there as the opener (for free, don't forget that part) I figured it behooved me to make the drive down there-only 85 miles.. It really IS a fantastic room, what a great place to see (hear?) music. The main show was Todd Sickafoose and Tiny Resistors, but that really isn't on my radar, and I didn't want to stay out all night. (omg, that doesn't sound like me and music, does it??)
Greg's set was great - new stuff off the PianoMandoNation cd.  The catharsis of getting over the broken heart- some good stuff on there- I can relate- just not today. *wink*
Set List
Father Baker
Reaching out
Limb
Minor Key (If you and me were never you and me, who were we?  I like that line/idea so much)
Good Work
Tongue
2 Degrees in Buffalo
Garbageman
Another Town

Next show, November 3 at the Lion's Den in Stockbridge. (omg any excuse to skip zumba haha)

Jack Goes Boating - Spectrum 10/15/10

Jackie and I saw this at the Spectrum last night.  Not much buzz about this movie- we were about only 7 people in the theater on a Friday night (?!!).  I love Philip Seymour Hoffman - this is his directorial debut, but also this movie is based on a play that these same actors did on stage in NYC.  Anyway, it is the story of a relationship starting, PSH and Amy Ryan, contrasted against watching a relationship end, John Ortiz and Daphne Rubin-Vega.  Some truths, some introspective moments - what are you willing to do for the relationship to grow/ what things can you accept? Do you ever really forgive? forget?  A lot of reality behind some quirky characters...

Chris Trapper at the Towne Crier Cafe October 1, 2010

Another great show - I think this makes about the 6th or 7th time we have seen him. Funny stories, and a broader set list this time- I never heard 'Sea of No Cares' before, although it was a number one that he wrote for the band Great Big Sea. (they're from Canada, now I understand).  Kristen Cifelli played 2 songs of her own, and sang back up on a couple others.  TJay opened (eh, he is interesting, has some real jazzy bluesy-ness to his voice, but would have way rather seen Kristen do a full opening set).
So, took the lobby poster and Chris signed it - he asked how we knew about his show...I can't believe he forgot we are FRIENDS!  Funny.  Keep coming back, we'll keep coming out. oh and 'stick with it'

Alejandro Escovedo at the Egg 9/30/2010

Saw Alejandro Escovedo and the Sensitive Boys play the Egg on Sept. 30th.  I am pretty new to his music, but heard Anchor from the new record and really just got hooked.  'Street Songs of Love' - have been playing it non-stop.  Every track is great, and there really aren't too many albums like that.

The most awesome thing was that the entire night was perfect, start to finish.  First, did the student rush - ticket for half price ($14) and it was in the second row (ok, a little off to the side, but really, it was the Swyer theater) Second, parked free on the street right by the museum (yea!) Third, took the show poster from the pillar by the box office,( with the blessings of the usher) on the way IN..(and I walk out of the elevator and there's AE just reading the paper) and Fouth - man, this show rocked - like I was shocked how truly blown away I was - I think all shows are good, right, but wow - this was unbelievably great.  I remembered the flip, and nobody said anything about it.  Only videoed this one song though, and it's in the last post.

So after the show, AE comes out, sits at the table right in front of me - I say - best show ever, thank you for that -  Really? He signs the poster - por vida-  I'll see you at Drew's in a few weeks - Just David and I will be playing - See ya then.
I really can't remember another time when everything fell into place to make such an unexpectedly great night.  So surpassed every expectation.

What the hell am I thinking?

This beautiful bird of paradise is brought to us today courtesy of the Hawaiian Girlfriend.  It is gorgeous, certainly. Who could resist it?
"We 'll talk about it when the time is appropriate.  I don't like to leave things unsettled."
Ok so really, what the hell does that mean.
Here are 3 great truths as I see them.
1. J and his furniture are moving here (shout out to the chair!!)
2. We are going to spend a lot of mutually enjoyable time together when he gets here.
3. I am not stressing over any HG, even if I need medication to help me.  (But I am, aren't I)
Am I nuts?  I don't know.
J did something to me - woke me up like Stella...whatever is going to happen will happen and I don't have to know it right now.
However, I do have SOME self-respect- I am NOT going to Austin.  Hmmm, that feels like I just shot myself in the foot...

Kristin Cifelli-Over the Moon.MP4

Saw Kristin Cifelli open for Chris Trapper at the Towne Crier on 10/1/10.  She did 2 songs solo, and joined him on a couple songs.  We saw them together at the Skytop the last time and we love this song.
