Scratch Beginnings by Adam Shepard

just finished this book - 24yoWM gives up his cushy life to try life as a poor person - a quick read, and a few interesting insights, but overall not enough- try "Nickel and Dimed" if you want an insightful book on this topic (in my opinion, everyone should read that one)

The Marriage Bureau for Rich People by Faramad Zama

finished this quick and lovely little book.  Very sweet.  Maybe stereotypical of Indian marriage customs? I don't know enough about them to say, but I liked this book.

Blessings by Anna Quindlen

read this yesterday. Ok, I always liked her column, liked her book "Black and Blue" and this was a look at families, who and what can make them.  It was ok, enjoyable enough but not real deep.

Mrs Darcy and the Blue-eyed Stranger

Just finished this collection of short stories - 14 stories (which have nothing to do with Jane Austen, despite the title) I like short stories, and Lee Smith puts you in the character perfectly.

American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld

I like her writing - if you haven't read 'Prep', I recommend that one too.  This was based on Laura Bush.  I didn't know she caused a fatal accident as a teen, (or maybe I did and forgot it).  Anyway, what part of yourself do you give up?  the part where you had convictions and ideals of your own that get forgotten or put aside for the 'good' of the marriage?

Joan Armatrading at the Egg

People that love Joan Armatrading *LOVE*LOVE*LOVE* Joan Armatrading…It was exactly like seeing her at the Palace, Proctors, SPAC in the ’80s – She gets a standing ovation just for showing up with that brilliant smile…but she brought the goods as well. She is an amazingly talented guitar player, and her new album is as strong or better than any of the old stuff. It was a great show, but I knew it would be

The Love Wife by Gish Jen

Book number 3 of the summer. Really liked it a lot.  Family stuff, cultural differences, jealousy, love.

Cyrus at the Spectrum

Making the most of my weekend off...Saw Cyrus - Funny, and a great cast - I don't think this is going to be an academy award nominee, ridiculous and creepyish, but funny!

Hey Baby, it's the 4th of July

field trip to see the fireworks - literally. Camp went to Colgate University - put down blankets in their field and watched the fireworks show from Hamilton, NY. #3 said 'you made me miss the Plaza fireworks for this'? But we still had fun.

NOTE: this picture is from the CHICAGO fireworks :)  Hamilton's was not quite that great

Handsome Harry at Proctor's

Good acting, good story - very thought-provoking topic. Some things really are unforgivable....

The Center of Everything

Just finished reading this. Quick read, likeable characters.
